Hedon Rangers were looking to match their second half dominance from last week’s game via locals Easington into the away trip to Pocklington. For three quarters of the game this was the case but unfortunately for Hedon Rangers in the 15mins at the start of the game it was Pocklington who scored twice to take all three points.
On a very hard pitch that was more suited to a skating ring Hedon Rangers started the game slowly and were caught napping in the 5th min after Kalum Horne finished off a swift move for Pocklington. Players from both sides were finding it difficult to find their feet and mistakes were been made in both defences. In the 15th min Pocklington increased their lead after Steve Whitehead took the ball deep in the Pocklington half to start a run that beat four Hedon Rangers players to give Dez Peat in the Rangers goal no chance. With two goals to chase it was going to be a tough task for Hedon Rangers to get back into the game. To their credit for the rest of the game it was all one way traffic but for all of the superb passing moves Hedon Rangers simply could not find that elusive goal. Even if they were to play until the following week it was unlikely they would have scored. Sean Thompson was doing his upmost to create the openings for others and in the 20th min he found Adrian Parkinson on the edge of the Pocklington box but his superb strike was superbly saved by Carl Silburn in the Pocklington goal.
Manger Kenny Harrison made several changes in the second half to bolster the attack bringing on Dave Breecroft and Jonathan Sutton. Dez Peat in the Rangers goal was a mere spectator for the second half as Hedon Rangers took control of the game. For all of their fine approach play Hedon Rangers didn’t create many clear cut chances. In the 70th min they had their best chance when Sean Thompson was pushed in the back in the Pocklington penalty area and in doing so he then landed outside of the penalty area where ref A Cherry deemed that Sean had been fouled. Unfortunately for Hedon Rangers it was only the ref who saw the incident this way. With the pitch getting even more like a skating ring as the game came to an end and for all off Hedon Rangers total command of the game unless you score you are unlikely to win. Next week Hedon Rangers entertain Westella & Willerby at Eastend where it will be a welcome return for ex player Paul Newman
